Most people can read the 6/6 line with the right glasses. Driving needs about 6/12 with both eyes.
A few questions first
Your general health, any medication, family history, how much time you spend on screens and anything you’ve noticed. Bring your current glasses or lenses.
Pre-test checks
Eye pressure with a gentle puff of air, a photo of the back of each eye, and the OCT scan if you’ve chosen one.
The sight test
Letters on the chart, one eye at a time, while we swap lenses until they’re as sharp as they’ll get. Better with one, or two? There are no wrong answers.
Eye health check
We look at the front and the inside of your eyes with a slit lamp and a bright light, and tell you what we’re looking for as we go.
Your results, explained
Your prescription, what it means and whether anything has changed since last time. You’ll leave with a copy, and no pressure to buy glasses from us.
Frame styles
Around 600 frames, chosen one by one.

Children’s eye care
Children’s eye tests are usually free.
We see children from age three, with pictures and shapes instead of letters, and keep a range of tough, bendy frames that most NHS vouchers cover.
Who you’ll see
Two optometrists, a lens specialist and a frame fitter.
